About the Book

T The gig economy, a transformative model of work, has emerged as a pivotal force shaping employment patterns and economic growth in India, particularly in states like Bihar. Characterized by flexible, short-term, and platform-based work, this ecosystem provides unprecedented opportunities for youth, women, and rural populations to engage in income-generating activities that transcend traditional employment structures. This book seeks to provide a comprehensive examination of Bihar's evolving gig economy, tracing its historical work patterns, current trends, policy frameworks, and future roadmap. Through an interdisciplinary lens, it explores the socio-economic implications of platform work, challenges related to social security, legal recognition, income stability, and skill development, as well as the role of government initiatives under the NDA regime. ...The text also presents in-depth case studies highlighting successful rural start-ups, women-led enterprises, and digital freelancers, thereby providing practical insights into sustainable gig-driven models. By integrating quantitative data, policy analysis, and qualitative narratives, this work aims to equip policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and students with actionable knowledge to harness the potential of Bihar's gig economy. This book aspires to be a definitive guide to understanding the transformative role of gig work in Bihar and its broader implications for India's future labour landscape.
